Sara has appeared with the Longy Chamber Orchestra, performing works for mezzo-soprano and orchestra by colleagues Heather Gilligan and Vartan Aghababian. She created the role of Sherry in the World Premiere of Salvatore Macchia’s opera, Insectaphobia, and premiered Justin Casinghino’s, Songs of a Drunk, for mezzo-soprano, violin, cello, and piano An avid supporter of contemporary art music, Sara has been pleased to collaborate with such emerging composers as Delvin Case, Matt Abidh Waugh, Matthew Whittall, Jeffrey Goldberg, Liam Wade, and Tor Somlo. Sara holds music performance degrees from the University of Massachusetts/Amherst and the Longy School of Music, where she specialized in Modern American Music She pursued additional vocal studies at Oberlin Conservatory and New England Conservatory Sara was twice a winner of the Longy Honors Competition, and has received many other citations for her musicianship, including the UMass Amherst Chancellor’s Talent Award, the Ornest Award for Vocal Excellence, and the Olga Averino Scholarship. Her teachers have included Mark Murphy, Charlie Banacos, Mili Bermejo, Peter Cassino, Robert Honeysucker, John Humphrey, Paulina Stark, and Oren Brown. A continuing student of multiple musical styles, Sara has studied at the Lake Placid Jazz Institute -- most notably with Jim McNeely, Rufus Reid, and Bob Brookmeyer – and with Sheila Jordan at University of MA Amherst’s Jazz in July. She currently studies the classical repertoire with Gale Fuller and coaches with James Busby and Sondra Kelly An employee of the development department at the Boston Ballet, Sara is affectionately known as VOBB (Voice of the Boston Ballet), because of her radio work with the organization. Additional recording projects include a choral demo with BOSE, recorded last March in Mechanics Hall in Worcester. This past March, Sara was a National Semifinalist in the 2005 American Traditions Competition, held in Savannah, Georgia.
